Co-education
Because life is co-educational
Established in 1652 as a school for boys, Colfe’s has been fully co-educational since 1999 when girls were first admitted to the senior school from Year 7. Today, whatever age children join the school they learn together – inside and outside of the classroom.
All our pupils have opportunities to discover and develop shared interests in a broad range of activity, expressing their developing identities in an open and respectful environment. Boys and girls play an equal role in every lesson and in every co-curricular activity, from music or drama to debating or coding. Mixed sporting teams celebrate victories together, and our pupils enjoy the camaraderie and healthy competition of the many House activities. Pupils see mutual respect, support and diversity modelled in our staff community and from our student leaders
We believe firmly that boys and girls who grow up alongside each other will be better prepared to thrive in their lives beyond school. Growing up together brings a sense of ease with each other, a sense of equality, respect and support. Most importantly, it prepares all our pupils to flourish and be happy in a world that contains both men and women.
