2022 Trinity Laban Conservatoire Recital Season Opens
Colfe’s was delighted to welcome Beyond The Bell trombone and percussion group to perform for Senior School pupils in the first of this year’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire Recital series.
The group of four trombonists and a drummer/percussionist performed a vibrant and varied repertoire, taking a captivated audience on a journey from 15th Century Tudor England (Greensleeves) right up to 1980s pop (Bryan Adams’ Heaven). Along the way, the packed recital hall was treated to a rousing rendition of Rossini’s William Tell Overture, a medley of traditional folk music complete with Irish whistle accompaniment, transported to the 1930s jazz scene with Duke Ellington’s In a Sentimental Mood, and a Big Band arrangement of Hey Jude – complete with audience participation for the famous chorus.
The group showcased a terrific selection of instruments and styles, including the sackbut, modern trombones, swing drum techniques, and plenty of beautiful a capella harmonies.
A firm fixture in the Colfe’s Senior School music calendar, the Recital series invites Conservatoire students to perform varied instruments and styles to inspire our own musicians from the Sixth Form right down to Year 7, as our youngest pupils embark on their own musical journey when Colfe’s instrumental scheme begins in the autumn term.
