- Awards are made at the discretion of the School.
- Scholarships are normally tenable until the end of Year 11 (or Year 13 in the case of Sixth Form scholarships), subject to satisfactory behaviour and academic commitment. It is exceptional, but not unprecedented, for an award to be withdrawn.
- The number of award-holders varies from year to year. In a typical year group we would expect between 20 and 30% of pupils to benefit from some form of fee subsidy.
11+ (Year 7 entry)
Academic scholarships are awarded mainly on the basis of outstanding performance in the Entrance Examinations. The exams are designed to identify and reward academic potential, as well as achievement.
A limited number of Music and Sports awards are also available at 11+. In the case of Music scholars, free instrumental tuition may accompany the award. Details of Music and Sports awards can be obtained from the relevant school departments.
13+ (Year 9 entry)
A limited number of academic scholarships are available for pupils joining Year 9, following assessment in the 13+ entry examinations.
16+ (Sixth Form entry)
A number of academic scholarships are available to pupils joining Colfe’s for the first time in the Lower Sixth Form. Such awards will be made following the Sixth Form scholarship examination in November and are conditional on an agreed performance at GCSE. Music, Drama and Sports awards may also be available at this stage. Scholarships may be offered to existing Year 11 pupils who perform particularly well at GCSE.
