Universal acclaim for Colfe’s Musical Production of Sugar

Talented students have performed in Colfe’s major musical production of the year, Sugar

The production of ‘Sugar’, another great success for the Drama Department, is the story of the movie ‘Some Like It Hot’, starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis and played to packed audiences in the theatre each night.

The lead roles were taken by Cozette Leese, Robert Ginty, Rory Powrie and Gareth Kennedy Brown who all gave superb performances in this energetic, and fun-filled production.

This was a particular triumph for Mrs Vander Gucht in her first year as Director of Drama at Colfe’s.  She said “It was wonderful to see students from Year 8 through to Year 13 working alongside and supporting each other   The backstage help was also filled with talented students like Malcolm Hill who did the lighting, Stage Manager Cecily Watts and the Assistant Stage Managers Martha Halloumas and Rhianna Skeates.

“A special mention should go to the Musical Director Miss Collinson, who was a fantastic support on the sound from both the band and singers, and thanks to Ms Kerstein, Mr Landamore, Mr S Smith and Miss Lawton for all their support too.

“The Drama Department’s Mrs Medhurst and I were thrilled at the end result of this production, not only for the superb quality of performances on stage but also with the number of students involved backstage. The show generated a strong bond amongst the students and a great deal of fun for the Staff who took part in a raucous song and dance number. It has definitely been a highlight of our year.
