Football was first played way back in the 1800’s.
However, in 1929 it was taken off the curriculum and not reinstated for 42 years until 1971. Since
then, football has developed considerably in both performance levels and popularity. It is now
firmly established as the main activity in the Lent term with over 100 fixtures played each
season,
In 2008 we shall run 4 senior teams from Year 11-13,
two teams at Under 15 (Year10) and two teams at Under 14 (Year 9). Football teams are not currently
running for girls but an element of football coaching is now included for girls in the Year 7 &
8 P.E. programme.
Recent seasons have seen a variety of tours for senior
players, including 10 days in Spain with two matches plus training, 20 days in South America,
visiting Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina, 10 days in Florida with four matches plus a training
day. In July 2008 the 1st XI squad are playing in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is one
of the world’s biggest youth tournament with 66 countries represented and over 1,500 teams
participating. Our squad fly out to Sweden on 11th July.
Our 1st XI team were winnings of the Trinity School’s
Cup in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and won the Bromley Cup in 2005. The U15 team won the Bromley Cup 2003,
while the Under 14 team were losing finalists in 2005.
All our matches are played on excellent pitches at our
Leathsellers' Ground, while training takes place both there and on the school Astro pitch.
