Rewards
All members of the school should be set high standards of
achievement, encouraged to meet those standards and commended in school and in half term
assessments and reports. It is important to reward good work whether it is for the real quality of
the work or for a good piece of work in relation to an individual pupil’s ability.
Years 7,8 and 9
Distinctions are awarded to pupils whose work is of outstanding
quality in comparison to their peers.
Credits are awarded to those pupils whose work is exceptionally good in relation to their
ability.
Credits and distinctions are recorded in the pupil’s school diary by the awarding member of
staff and in staff markbooks and the Year Record books in Staff Room. Distinctions can be given for
a special project, a number of preps very well done or for a good performance in class tests or for
consistently good contributions to class discussions. Credits aim to develop motivation by
providing encouragement for improvements in standards.
Prizes are awarded twice a year on the basis of Distinctions and
Credits earned. Heads of Departments are encouraged to award prizes for exceptionally good pieces
of work such as projects or reports on trips. The Head is pleased to award prizes for subject
competitions. Distinctions and credits earned also form part of the decision process for the Lower
School Prize Giving in September each year.

Years 10 and 11
Commendations can be awarded to pupils for work of an excellent standard from a particular
pupil. A record of commendations is kept by the member of staff awarding the distinction who also
records the distinction in the pupil’s School diary and in the Year Record Book.
Tutors monitor their tutees and if five commendations are awarded to an individual in a half
term a Year 10 pupil will be sent to the Deputy Head on Thursday morning at 8.30am, and a Year 11
pupil to the Head. An interim report celebrating this success will be sent to the parents by the
Head of Year.
