In Years 7 and 8, pupils study the origins and
teachings of the Bible, the foundation of the Christian religion and the beliefs and practices of
Christianity. In Year 9, a study is made of Islam and Judaism. Pupils explore the similarities as
well as the differences between these two religions and Christianity. The emphasis in this course
on how religion impacts upon the believers’ everyday lives. World religions are also studied
as part the Year’s Active Citizenship programme.
Religious Studies is offered as a GCSE option in Years
10 and 11. The specification being followed allows for some flexibility in the topics studied.
Pupils are currently looking at Religion and Life from a Christian perspective and are making a
study of Mark’s Gospel.
