All pupils study Latin in years seven and eight. The aim is to provide a basic understanding and
knowledge of a highly structured language. Pupils can gain an insight into the mechanics of
language through learning formal grammar. Emphasis is placed on the large number of words in
English derived from Latin as well as the direct descent of several modern European languages. At
the same time pupils will acquire information on Roman culture and conquest as well as the material
remains.
