History is part of the core curriculum up to and
including Year 9. We follow a broad chronological sweep of British History from the Norman
Invasion to the Second World War. Most continue with the subject at GCSE, where we follow the OCR
Modern World History GCSE with a coursework assignment on the Arab-Israeli Conflict.
In the Sixth Form we offer both Medieval and Modern
History. Particularly popular aspects of these courses are the Crusades in the Medieval Paper
and Russia 1855-1956 for our modernists. All of our Sixth Formers produce an individual
assignment on an historical question of their own choosing.
We encourage our pupils and students to involve
themselves in the wider life of the department. Lower school historians produce a magazine
every half term, while in the Sixth, the student-run ‘Dead Historians’ Society’ organises debates,
visits and social functions.
