Classics

Classics

The study of the ancient world is integral to the educational development of our pupils. The Latin language helps to develop understanding of English grammar and vocabulary and supports the teaching of Modern Languages; while, by learning about the history of the Roman people, pupils come to a better understanding of our own society and culture. At Colfes we make every student develop intellectually through close interaction with the Classical World.

Latin is taught throughout the Senior School and Sixth Form and is compulsory in both Year 7 and 8.

Ancient History is offered as a Short Course GCSE in Year 11, covering both Greek and Roman topics.

Classical Civilisation will be offered to Sixth Form entrants from September 2010, offering an exploration of the literature and art of the Greeks and Romans.
