The Prep school together with the Parents and Friends Association (PAFA) have held a cake sale to raise money for the Freddie Farmer Foundation
Seven year old Freddie Farmer, from Eltham, was born with cerebral palsy, and three times a year his family have been taking him to a centre near Oxford for unique and intensive physiotherapy using equipment called ‘spider’
The Charity now wants to raise the funds needed to set up a specialist centre in Southeast England for children and young people with cerebral palsy and serious mobility problems.
Freddie’s Aunt, Katie Chapman, whose children, Evie and Matthew, attend Colfe’s, organised the bumper cake sale that raised £528. She says that events like this will help them reach their £250,000 target.
“This has been a wonderful afternoon and everyone has been very supportive. The Foundation has raised £50,000 so far and events like this will really help us reach our target. The improvement in Freddie after the ‘Spider Treatment’ was amazing and so having a ‘Spider’ centre in the South East will help so many children like Freddie and make such a difference to their lives. .
“We also sold wristbands at the event and we had to re-stock for the second wave of children who came in. Lots of parents generously made and donated the cakes and we also received some from Sainsbury’s Eltham, who have adopted the foundation as their charity for a year.”
Katie’s dad, Michael Ash agreed “The foundation’s campaign for a local physio centre is fantastic. Everyone seems to know about it and it’s really taken off. Freddie is a fabulous, energetic child who doesn’t let his disability get him down. He’s fantastic, a great character.”
Dawn Bennett from PAFA said “We are so pleased to be able to help and Freddie’s family have such a special connection to the school. It’s a very worthwhile charity and it’s a shame Freddie has to go as far as Oxford for the specialist therapy he needs. It would be great to have a centre locally for him and children like him. I’d like to thank all those who have made today so successful.”
