Collective worship
Colfe’s is a Christian foundation and has close associations with St Mary’s
Church, Lewisham and St Alfege’s Church, Greenwich. The National Curriculum for Religious Studies
is covered which includes the teaching of Christianity as well as other world religions. Our
assemblies, although often Christian based, also reflect this multi-faith approach.
Regular assemblies are held throughout the Preparatory School. Assemblies in the Prep department
take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On alternate Thursdays each house has its own
assembly and once every term all pupils attend Senior School assembly when a Prep School
presentation of some type is given. On Tuesdays each form has a tutor period.
Assemblies may contain musical or dramatic presentations given by the pupils. Often religious
stories or stories containing a moral are read. A hymn is sung and prayers are said to close
assembly. It is expected that all pupils attend as no doctrine is taught but issues are raised to
help children develop a caring attitude to each other and the world in general. Notification
should be given if a child wishes to attend a festival or religious ceremony which fall on days
during term.
