Charity report 2007-2008
Year 5 kicked off the charity fundraising this year with a cake sale for MacMillan
Nurses. After eating all those cakes, it was time for a bike ride to work off a few
calories! Unfortunately we had to postpone our original date at the Leathersellers’ sports
ground, but we were able to rearrange the event to be held during PE lessons. Through selling
t-shirts and generous extra donations, we raised £582. This money was split between the
charity Demelza House and buying bicycle racks for the school playground. These are now in use
and we look forward to seeing many of you riding to school in the future.
As Christmas approached, we started preparing our Boxes of Love. We set ourselves a
target of 150 boxes and managed to send a fantastic 232 boxes to children caught in the midst of
wars, natural disasters and extreme poverty. In November it was Year 3’s turn to bake cakes in
aid of Children in Need. Together with a mufti day we raised a total of £337.80. The
musicians amongst us performed at a Christmas Charity event at St. Mary’s Parish Church in
Lewisham. The concert helped to raise money for several charities including the Children’s
Society and St. Christopher’s Hospice in Sydenham.
2008 started with our yearly showcase of undiscovered talent in Colfe’s Got
Talent. Performances included joke tellers, a drummer, poets, musicians, singers and
dancers. It was an incredibly difficult decision for the judges and we all thoroughly enjoyed
watching the performances. The money raised was sent to the David Livingstone Trust in
Thailand to support our new sponsored child Nitipom Poonkate. On World Book Day many children
bought in £1 and swapped books with their friends to collect money for Book Aid International. Our
donation of £141.40 will support the charity’s work in sub-Saharan Africa.
On the 14
th of March we all slipped on our Sport Relief red socks and took up the challenge to
run a mile. Through the sale of socks we raised £288.00 which will be used by Comic Relief to
help vulnerable people living in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
Thank you to all those parents who baked cakes this year for the cake sales and to the
children who rode, ran and read their way to raise money for some very deserving charities. |
