Sports

Sport has a high profile and proud history at the Preparatory School with many children representing Colfe’s at local, county and even national level. Rugby, football and cricket are the major sports for the boys and we enjoy success in all of these areas. Many of our children play regularly on Sundays with the Old Colfeians and as a result, the standard of play is always very high. We have excellent links with the senior school cricket and boys are able, if selected, to join the year 7-9 cricket academy run by Graham Clinton ex- Surrey coach.

Netball is played during the autumn and spring terms and in the summer girls play rounders, tennis and also complete in athletics events. Netball is especially strong and we have won the Area Schools Independent Netball League and Tournament at year six as well as numerous local tournaments from years 3-5. We have also placed third in the National IAPS netball competition. Girls benefit from training up with the senior school netballers and are often selected to play for the senior school. Our girls’ games teacher is assisted by a local netball coach from Beacons, a club which has teams playing in the North West Kent League. Many girls at Colfe’s get the opportunity to trial for Beacons.  Our girls often are selected for Kent County netball as they move into the secondary school.

Each year we have boys and girls qualify for the national finals of the IAPS swimming competition with many placing in the top 10. We have strong links with local swimming clubs and we also offer an early morning swimming session for talented swimmers from year 3 all the way up to year 9.

We are also fortunate to benefit from the skills of external coaches who visit the school to run sports clubs such as tennis coaching, dance lessons and martial arts. We also take children to Blackheath Golf club for after school lessons.

Prep school children have their own dedicated area of the school fields adjacent to the main teaching building. In lesson time and extra curricular activities good use is made of whole school sports facilities including the large indoor swimming pool, floodlit all weather pitch, netball and tennis courts and spacious sports hall.

The Leisure Centre is available to the public out of school hours and all Colfe’s staff benefit from free membership. In addition to a swimming pool and sports hall, the centre also houses two gyms.
