Year 8 Students have taken part in the Colfe’s final of a Latin Reading competition

The students read out loud a passage of Latin and were marked and judged on their intonation, emphasis and presentation.
The Headmaster judged the winners who will now travel to the City of London School for the Regionals.
Head of Classics Mr Corstorphine explained. “Latin Scholars have been able to use techniques to track how the language would have been spoken by the Romans and Colfe’s students were judged on how closely they came to speaking and performing as a true Roman would have done. The passage, which was about the eruption of Vesuvius, was thrillingly brought to life as students spoke it with the right intonation and emphasis. Congratulations to Alice Zhelezko, Sophia Rosen-Fouladi and Rosie Taylor who were worthy winners and will now compete in the Regionals. Also a special mention to Lucy Williams who was narrowly pipped to the post. Thank you to the Headmaster for judging this competition and overall well done to all the Year 8 competitors. This was a challenging and fun competition.”
