Colfe’s has welcomed the former top test England cricketer Derek Underwood who visited
the school. He is now a Director of a company about to install an all-weather batting strip on one of the school squares.
“Deadly” Derek Underwood was a Kent and England International Cricketer in the 1960s and 70s who played in 86 tests for England claiming 297 wickets at an average of 25.83. He was lethal on a sticky (damp) wicket and bowled at the speed of a medium pacer. He is also a recent (2010) President of the MCC.
The man who for a decade was one of the foremost spin bowlers in the world said “I am delighted to come to the school. Colfe’s is so fortunate to have made such good cricketing links with, most notably, Kent County Cricket and I’m pleased to hear about so many pupils who are dedicated to the sport.”
Derek Underwood was very keen to look around Colfe’s excellent cricketing facilities and talk to some of our top cricketers. Colfe’s First Team Captain Max Dunmore was delighted to meet such a talented man. He said “He was a lovely man who had some real insight into cricket, in both how it has changed and where it is going now but most of all some fantastic tips on how to play. It was a real honour and pleasure to have the opportunity to meet him”
