Charlie Whittaker, Year 13, has won Gold at a prestigious Judo tournament. A wide range of schools were represented at the Headmasters' Conference of Independent Schools Competition including Harrow, Winchester, Charterhouse and St Paul's. Charlie competed in the over 16 category and after the first round of fights where he was awarded a ‘bye’, 18 year old Charlie went on to win all his remaining fights convincingly. The impressive performance, at the High Wycombe Judo Centre, saw Charlie win each bout by a knockout ippon throw within 20 seconds.
His father, Andrew, is very proud of his performance. “Charlie has been training with the men at his Club in Dartford over the past 12 months or so and this has paid dividends in terms of enhancing his strength and fitness as well as improved technique. “We are now looking forward to Charlie representing Colfe's in the 2012 British Schools National Championships which is run by the British Judo Association in Sheffield. We are all hoping he can repeat his success!”
