Last Friday Year 4 embarked on their annual overnight trip to Downe Scout Camp. After a
short coach ride, we arrived and set off into the woods to explore the site. As usual, the
children were most concerned as to when they could eat their packed lunch; but sorting out luggage,
tea-towels and bunk-buddies took priority!
The rain held off as we began our first afternoon. Each group completed two activities
from a choice of grass sledging, archery, zip wire and go-karting. The zip wire came out as a
favourite with the children – and several teachers were spotted having a quick go too! By
suppertime everyone was starving once again and raced off to wash hands before eating.
Unfortunately the washing up afterwards was not such a popular activity and a few people had
trouble distinguishing between their flannel, towel and tea-towel.
As evening fell Mr Donoghue entertained us all with his campfire songs and the children
couldn't wait for their favourite -
'Cecil is a caterpillar, Cecil is my Fwiend'. Tired but happy the children went to
bed and the adults enjoyed five minutes' peace before cilmbing into their own sleeping bags.
As expected the children were up bright and early the next morning (5am in some cases) and ate a
hearty breakfast.
All the children were very well behaved and entered into activities with enthusiasm and
energy. On their behalf we would like to thank Mr Donoghue for organising the trip and Mr and Mrs
Cordery for providing us with a range of delicious meals (and endless cups of tea!)
