On Friday, 21 st March a party of 26 Prep School children and 3 staff travelled to Geneva in Switzerland for a 6 day ski trip. The journey was quick and trouble free although heavy snow meant a short stop to attach snow chains to the coach. We arrived in the resort of Torgon on time and were greeted with a picture postcard scene of heavy snow on the slopes and surrounding trees. This set the scene for the rest of the week as regular falls meant that the pistes were always fresh, unusual for this time of the year.
The accommodation was perfect for our group and we were quickly into our rooms after an evening meal. The next morning, the children were tested and placed in ski ability groups with instructors from the local Swiss ski school. The Portes du Soleil is an extensive ski area which covers resorts in France and Switzerland.
By the second day, most children were skiing from one country to to the other, having lunch in an alpine restaurant in France and returning to Torgon at the end of the day. The superb conditions meant that the children got the maximum benefit from their time on the piste and thus quickly improved.
