On Tuesday 22
nd January 2008 the Hans Woyda Maths Team consisting of Priyanka Chaturvedi (Year 9),
Ran Xiong (Year 11), Andrew Sheridan (Year 12), Edward Delamare (Year 13) and Mr Vijapura (coach)
went to St Paul’s Girls School in Hammersmith. They were taking part, for the first time ever, in
the knock out stage of the competition. Only the 16 group winners of the 64 original teams
remained.
We left school at 2.45pm and arrived at 4.00pm ready to start the match. The Maths competition
consisted of 7 rounds involving individual questions on a range of topics as well as a team round.
At the half way stage the scores were tied, up until the 6
th round on algebra where St Paul’s took the lead by 4 points. As we went into the last
round, with the scores close we had to get our last two questions correct. We managed to get one
correct but did not manage the other one in the allotted time.
The final score was Colfe’s 38, St Paul’s Girls 39.
It was an excellent result given the nature of the opposition; St Paul’s Girls School is one
of the top schools in the country. We were really proud of our team who put on an excellent
performance.
