Year 6 enjoyed a very busy day last week at the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green. The
museum houses one of the world’s largest collection of toys and the visit complemented the
work in history that the children have been studying this term. In addition to exploring
the museum itself, the children participated in two workshops. During the “History Detective”
workshop the children were asked to search for clues, using historical evidence and records, to put
together character profiles of five suspect children and then decide who was guilty. The
second workshop allowed the children to handle a large range of toys dating from Victorian times to
the present day and the workshop ended with everybody making their own moving toy which they could
take home. A big thank you to all the parents who offered to help out and make the day
so successful.
