Rugby is the school’s main sport in the Autumn term. All boys play in their games’ afternoon, at least up to the October half term, and those who are in the rugby squads have training sessions after school. The school has regular competitive fixtures on Saturdays, producing teams from 1st XV level down to U12’s. The U12 & U13 age groups continue with rugby into the Easter term. This is to give the boys a good introduction to the sport due to the technical nature of the game. The school is fortunate to have the services of a number of hardworking and talented coaches throughout the year groups, and this is headed by the master-in-charge of rugby, Nick Miller.
In recent years rugby has flourished at Colfe’s, and plays a seminal role in the life of the school. The fixture list continues to grow both in strength and number. Our current U14’s have also enjoyed success, bowing out of the Kent Cup at the semi-final stage this year.
The school embarks on regular rugby tours, there are even oppotunities to visit to New Zealand, Australia & Fiji. In between these major tours the Senior squad often prepare for the new season in Limerick, Ireland.
The school has excellent facilities, both at the school and the Leathersellers’ sports ground, with 7 pitches available.
