We wish our Kent Championship swimmers the best of luck over the next few weeks.
The 2012 Championships start at Crystal Palace this weekend and then move on to Medway Park in Gillingham for subsequent weekends. Qualified this year are Ellen Dunbar (year 9 - Greenwich SC), Millie Bach (year 10 - White Oak SC/Greenwich Borough Mariners SC) and Nick Duxbury (year 12 - Greenwich Borough Mariners SC). Greenwich Olympic Borough 2011 captain Josh Ling (year 12 - Greenwich Borough Mariners) misses out due to other commitments and Kate Drury (year 7 - Greenwich Borough Mariners) has been injured this year.
Ellen has qualified for a magnificent 13 different events but is swimming only 11 of them. Her best event is 100m Breaststroke where she hopes to break her personal best of 1.21.86. Edgars Haruns (year 10 - Southwark Aquatics SC) also competes in the Surrey County Championships to be held at Guildford and the Crawley K2. His favourite event is the 100m freestyle where he is hoping to break 57 seconds. In the run up to the championships he has trained every single day for the past month!!! Head of Swimming at Colfe's Miss Sam Holder said "I wish all our swimmers the very best for the forthcoming County Championships, they are all dedicated athletes and manage to combine their schoolwork and training most efficiently - they all deserve great success!" On 18th March Millie, Ellen and Kate will be swimming competitively for the Royal Borough of Greenwich as part of the 6 Host Olympic Borough Gala in the new Olympic Pool at the London Olympics Aquatic Centre in the Olympic Park. This will be a great opportunity for them to taste some of the atmosphere of swimming at the real pinnacle of the sport - hopefully, it will inspire them to even greater achievements.
